Important Announcement

Dear Valued Ranch Wireless Customers,

It is with heavy hearts that we write these words. As of April 1, 2018, Ranch Wireless, Inc. will no longer stand alone.VTX1 Companies, a well-established service provider headquartered in Raymondville, Texas, will be the new owner, and even though we could not wish our wonderful customers anyone nicer to work with (and vice versa), it will be very difficult for us to close this chapter of our lives. This marks our 20th year in the business, and we have countless treasured memories to show for it, as well as many special friendships that we would not otherwise have experienced.

Please be assured that with the new ownership, nothing else will change — same location and same employees.

Looking forward, we do see great things for this company that started out as a 2-way radio shop and blossomed with the help and expertise of so many friends and family members. To Don and Grace McFarland, from whom we purchased the company back in July 1998, thank you for the faith you had in us to succeed and your help in getting us started. In addition, we would be remiss not to mention that without our parents’ encouragement and backing, and that all-important initial loan from Shawna’s late father, we would not have been able to achieve what we have today — providing internet service to you, our customers, in the rural areas where you live and work.

Finally, in closing, we’d like to give a special shout out to our current employees — we are Ranch Wireless because of you and how you conduct yourselves. Thanks for your integrity and fortitude to keep it going no matter what, and to always remember that the “customer comes first.”

With gratitude,

Allen and Shawna Pooley

3 Tips for Dealing with Spam

The term “spam” refers to unwanted, unsolicited emails, the digital equivalent of the junk mail in your physical mailbox. Spam may contain benign advertising, malicious code, or scams designed to collect your personal information. Unfortunately, there is no way to escape spam in the digital age, but here are a few tips to help you deal with junk email.

  1. Make Sure Your Email Has a Spam Filter

Most web-based email clients, like Yahoo, Gmail, or Outlook, have built in spam filters that automatically send probable spam to a separate folder labeled “Spam” or “Junk”. If you’re not sure if you have a spam filter, just look for one of those names in your folders. These filters will sometimes send legitimate messages into the spam folder, so it’s also a good idea to check the folder if you’re expecting a message but haven’t seen it yet.

  1. Keep an Eye Out for Suspicious Emails

Even with spam filtering, some emails can slip through into your inbox. Look carefully at each email before you open it. Spam addresses can put legitimate looking names on their messages, so put your mouse over the name (without clicking) to show the email address itself. Many spam addresses use strange spellings or odd domains. Also look at the subject line. If it looks like advertising, or promises payment, that’s a good indication it’s spam.

  1. When You Find Spam, Get Rid of It

If you suspect an email is spam, don’t open it! Sometimes, opening the message is all it takes to infect your computer with malware. When you find a spam email, check to see if your email client has a “mark as spam” option, usually somewhere near the delete option. Using this function helps to improve your spam filtering by pointing out the messages that got through. If you don’t have that option, just delete the message immediately.

Spam is inescapable as long as you use email, but you don’t have to fall prey to spammers’ scams and viruses if you know what to look for to avoid opening spam in the first place.

Are Updates To Your Browser Important?

Accessing the Internet from your home computer, tablet and mobile phone is now a daily, if not hourly, occurrence for most Americans. Unfortunately, while you’re exploring the most interesting world wonders, or watching the latest hilarious cat videos via the Internet, hackers are trying to break into your computer. One single error in your browser, can give these thieves the opening they need to snoop into your personal information, gather data and history about you, or even steal your identity.

That’s why browsers, such as Firefox and Chrome, release regular updates that correct any security flaws and add new features. To check your device and make sure that your most-used browser is up-to-date, click here.

Updating your Web Browser will give you the peace of mind to know that whoever and whatever is out there trying to breech business and personal information will not be able to hack into your life. It also usually comes with fun, new features that you didn’t realize you were missing, until you login and find that all of the sudden your browser knows you a little better than it did yesterday and in all the best ways!
